Skincare through the ages. What's the best skincare for your age?

Have you ever “googled” “what’s the best skincare treatment?” if not, you’ve probably thought about it. After all, we all want to look our best and we’re always being told, “THIS is the best skincare for you”.

There’s one issue with that… best for who? One size does not fit all. Let’s take age into consideration. Would a lady in her 80’s use the same skincare as a man in his 20’s? Well maybe… but that doesn’t mean they should. We want to advise on skincare that is best for you at your age.

Skincare when you’re in your 20’s

When you’re in your 20’s, it’s all about taking a proactive approach to avoid damage. As you age, you’ll be looking at winding back the clock on your skin and repairing any damage caused.

The key to having a healthy glow to your skin is to keep it hydrated. So this goes much further than physically hydrating by drinking water. We’re talking about treatments that specifically work at hydrating your skin at a sub-dermis level.

What we advise:
As you may already be aware, we have our own skincare range. Our skincare range contains SPF’s - which is essential for protecting your skin from the suns harmful rays. You may think SPF’s are for when you’re on the beach, trying to work up a tan, but the sun is always emitting it’s rays, these rays can be harmful to your skin, but also they damage and age your skin. If you want to look your best for as long as possible, this is something you want to avoid.

We also advise not wearing too much makeup - or if this is just not an option for you (we all love our makeup) ensure you remove it properly with a good cleanse and toner.

What’s the best skincare when you’re in your 30’s?

We get asked this question a lot at our Ribble Valley Skincare Clinic and our Kendal Clinic. Let’s face it, when you’re in your 20’s, you still have smooth supple skin and show very few signs of ageing. The same goes for when you hit the “big” 3-0, however, a few fine lines do start to creep in throughout this decade in your life and you start to be a little more aware of this. So what skincare and aesthetic treatments are available to you when you’re in your 30’s. Well… all of them, but here’s what we advise.

Wrinkle relaxing injections - some may argue you’re too young, as there are some who associate this popular aesthetic treatment with old age. That is not the case and our patients in their 30’s are testament to this. We prefer to adopt the view that prevention is better than cure.

Again, a good skincare regime will benefit you - ahem… our range… And everything we mentioned for people in their 20’s.

Your 40’s…! This is one of those decades many dread - you could probably say that about every decade. But 40 just always seems to be one we hear a lot about.

And….

You really are spoiled for choice with “the best aesthetic treatments when you’re in your 40’s” but rather than list every single one, we’d like to discuss Profhilo. The treatment that went from never being heard of, to can’t move without hearing about it. It really is THAT good. We see amazing results in our skincare clinic everyday from using Profhilo on our lovely patients, but also the media has been giving Profhilo some seriously strong reviews. We’ve covered it here but to recap: Profhilo is referred to as the “airbrushing” treatment and for good reason. The treatment will leave your skin looking and feeling flawless. This is achieved by improving the skin texture, elasticity and hydration with an immediate tightening effect.

What’s the best skincare for you when you’re in your 50’s?

For many, being in your 50’s can be a decade of two halves. Pre and post menopause. This has a huge effect on your skin, hormone levels, everything. We covered ways to combat the menopause here

We would advise you take care of your skin and health in the same ways we’ve advised for those in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s - but as things change a little (for most) in their 50’s there are a few more treatments you can benefit from.

Whether you want to keep wrinkles at bay, reduce the signs of ageing that have already appeared, or get that healthy glow back, NEWA is for you! We now stock these highly effective devices at our Ribble Valley clinic and our Kendal based clinic.
Even the best of us are still deficient in our recommend amount of vitamins. This goes much deeper than getting your 5 a day. Vitamin B12 is an important nutrient that keeps the body’s nerve and blood cells healthy. Vitamin B12 helps prevent anaemia and can combat symptoms, such as feeling tired and weak. Not only is vitamin B12 a fantastic treatment for people in their 50’s and women who are going through the menopause.

What’s the best skincare for you when you’re in your 60’s and up?

When you’ve reached your 60’s (if you’re a woman) the menopause will be a thing of the past. phew…
But what can you do to ensure you look your best through your 60’s 70’s 80’s and so on? At this stage in your life, your skin will have lost a lot of its elasticity, so you’re going to want to focus on treatments that boost collagen and plump up the areas of your face that will have lost volume.

Again, we would definitely recommend you follow the same advice we’ve recommend to those throughout their 20’s-50’s, but add a little something extra.

Dermal fillers are a fantastic way to restore volume to the areas that will have lost it over thew years. Tear trough filler treatment is a great treatment to combat sunken eyes. Cheek fillers will give your cheeks more volume and tighten the skin around the cheeks, giving you a naturally enhanced, more youthful look. We’re not trying to make you look like you’re 20, we want to make you look like the best possible version of yourself.

What else can dermal fillers do for your face when you’re in your 60’s and up? the jaw-line will have softened as you reach this stage in your life. We can perform a non surgical jaw augmentation to sharpen the lines and give your jawline more definition. This is a great way to tighten the skin around the jaw. We can also offer a non surgical facelift - much more about that here
