Not just a wrinkle relaxant. 4 great uses for BOTOX®

We're all very aware of the benefits BOTOX® can give our appearance. If you want a smoother appearance, where do you turn? BOTOX® -exactly.

As great as BOTOX® is for using as an anti-ageing treatment. What if we were to tell you that anti-ageing is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the multiple applications BOTOX® can be used for?

BOTOX®: Not just a 1-trick pony

So what else can BOTOX® be used for? We're going to discuss several treatments we offer to our patients around the Blackburn, Preston and Lancashire area. It's important to many of our patients to look their best, there's nothing wrong with that. But some of our patients come to us with medical conditions that affect their lives. Here's how we have helped give confidence, improved lifestyles and improved smiles.

#1 Help With Chronic Headaches

We've all experienced headaches at some point in our lives. But imagine having constant migraines that stop you from working, exercising and even driving. Unfortunately this is a serious problem in many peoples lives.

What happens when pain killers just don't cut it?

BOTOX® has been proven to treat even the most chronic of migraines.

What you need to know:

If you suffer from the occasional headache that passes after a day or two, then you won't need to resort to BOTOX® to treat your headache. This treatment is best suited to those who have chronic migraines that can last up to 2 weeks. If this is you, then this treatment will work for you. We've found that the more severe the migranes, the better the result after treatment.

How does it work?

BOTOX® enters the nerve endings around the site where the patient is injected. It then blocks the release of chemicals involved in pain transmission. This then prevents the pain signals that tell your brain you are suffering from pain. It can usually take anywhere between 2-3 treatments before our patients experience a dramatic improvement.

#2 Stops you grinding your teeth

Unfortunately there is no cure for Bruxism - (involuntary grinding of the teeth and clenching of the jaw) however, there are ways to improve your condition.

What you need to know:

Bruxism can cause wear and tear to your teeth, this seems an obvious symptom of grinding your teeth. But what else can it cause? Bruxism sufferer report headaches, earache, facial pains and even migraines. Luckily there is a very effective treatment for Bruxism.

How does it work?

A small amount of BOTOX® is injected directly into the large muscle that moves your jaw (masseter muscle). This will weaken your masseter muscle enough to stop involuntary clenching of the jaw and grinding of the teeth. This procedure will significantly improve your sleep, due to preventing you from waking up with pain in your jaw, face and even headaches.

Don't worry about losing facial expressions and other voluntary movements such as chewing and smiling. This procedure will not affect your voluntary movements.

#3 No more "gummy" smiles

Your smile is such an important feature of your face. It's how your face expresses happiness. What if you were so self conscious about your smile, that you deprived the world of it? We've had patients come to us who were so insecure about their smiles, they would cover their face when smiling, or try to fight their smile.
How can we help you smile?

What you need to know:

Contrary to popular believe, your gums are not too big and your teeth are not too small. The image above illustrates this, much better than we can with a description.
"Fixing" your gummy smile does not involve reducing your gum coverage, it involves relaxing the muscle that raises your top lip.

How does it work?

A small amount of BOTOX® is injected into both sides of the junction of nostril and nose to mouth fold. This will weaken the muscles that raise your top lip. After 3-4 days, you will notice the elevation of your upper lip will gradually become less. This will transform your smile and give you a smile that shows off your teeth and not your gums. The full result will be achieved after 2 weeks has passed.

#4 Severe underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis)

At Julie Pawson Aesthetics, we provide treatments for excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis).
BOTOX® has been used to treat this condition for many patients, with a huge success rate. Some of our patients have reported back to us that they have stopped using deodorants and antiperspirants all together.

What you need to know?

The body areas that can commonly experience over active sweat glands are: the under arms, palms, feet and forehead. The most common area for people to suffer from excessive sweating is the underarm. If this is you, there's no need to be concerned or embarrassed, there are many people in your position and many who we have helped.

How does it work?

BOTOX® is injected into the affected areas. This will block the chemical signals that are sent to the brain that stimulates the sweat glands. Put simply, the message will be block, so you will not sweat in the treated area.

The results will be noticeable 1-2 weeks after you've received your treatment. There's no need to worry about sweat backing up or storing it elsewhere. Your body will still be able to produce sweat naturally, you will just not sweat from the areas that we treat.

If you decide to change your mind, the body will gradually return back to functioning in the way it did prior to your treatment.
